URGING CABLE TELEVISION PROVIDERS TO AVOID ADULT-ORIENTED
ADVERTISING DURING FAMILY VIEWING HOURS
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as
follows:
WHEREAS, during January, 1990, a television station carried on Cox
Cable ran an advertisement on a weekday mid-afternoon when school children
could be watching, which advertisement was geared to a "976 number"
encouraging men to call for female companionship, and
WHEREAS, not all parents are able to monitor every moment of their
children's television viewing time or use of 976 numbers on the telephone.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of
Chula Vista does hereby urge Cox Cable, Chula Vista Cable and other cable
television providers to take all actions necessary to encourage all TV
stations which are carried on their cable to raise their standards of
advertising by refusing to allow adult-oriented advertising during day time
hours or times associated with family viewing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor is hereby directed and
authorized to send a letter to the cable television providers franchised in
the City of Chula Vista advising of the Council's position on this matter and
