RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CHULA VISTA RECOMMENDING AND REQUESTING
ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION NO. 6339 HERETOFORE
INTRODUCED IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
OF THE 81ST CONGRESS
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA DOES
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
WHEREAS the Honorable Clinton D. McKinnon, a member of
Congress of the United States of America, representing the
23rd Congressional District of California, which is located
in San Diego County, California, has introduced Rdsolution
No. 6339 in the House of Representatives of the 81st Congress;
and
WHEREAS the said Resolution would authorize and direct
the Chief of Army Engineers to cause a survey to be made to
determine the practicality and advisability of constructing
the proposed GREAT SOUTHWEST TUNNEL, a multi-purpose highway,
rail. and' aqueduct tunnel through the Laguna Mountains in San
Diego County, California; and
WHEREAS the construction of said proposed Tunnel and High-
way would improve, for national defense purposes, the route
of U. S. Highway No. 80; expedite highway and rail transportation
to and from the coastal cities of Southern California to and
from the States of Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and the Northern
States of the Republic° of Mexico; provide the most economical
transportation costs to and from the above-named areas to and
from the San Diego Bay; and would augment and improve the
industrial water supply of the coastal area, and particularly
of the many national defense establishments in San Diego County
and other Southern California counties; and

WHEREAS in the opinion of the City Council of the City
of Chula Vista, California, the best interests of the United
States of America require the development referred to in the
said Resolution;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA, that the best interests
of the United States of America require the passage of House
of Representatives Resolution No. 6339 or its inclusion in a
pertinent bill to facilitate its approval and passage ; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Administrative Officer
of the City of Chula Vista, California, is hereby directed to
mail copies of this Resolution to the Honorable Clinton D.
McKinnon, and to any and all other persons and organizations
who may be in a position to assist and facilitate the passage
of such Bill, which Bill, because of its paramount importance
to the national defense, to the.development of the southwestern
area of the United States, and to the critical unemployment
conditions, is of utmost importance to the Nation.
