On June 13, 1983, the Board of Appeals and Advisors held a public hearing on the adoption
of the National Electrical Code, 1981 Edition. No objections were presented either orally
or written.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council
Put the ordinance on its first reading.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
The Board of Appeals and Advisors recommend adoption of the National Electrical Code,
1981 Edition
DISCUSSION:
All of the political jurisdictions in San Diego County have adopted the National Electrical
, 1981 Edition. The Building Standards Commission of the State of California has also
approved the National Electrical Code, 1981 Edition as the Electrical Standards for the
State of California. The Building Industry Association, the San Diego Chapter of the
American Institute of Architects and the Electrical Contractors Association through their
respective representatives at the monthly meeting of the San Diego Area Chapter, Inter-
national Conference of Building Officials, endorses the adoption of the National Electrical
Code, 1981 Edition.
There has been no major changes to the National Electrical Code, 1981 Edition. The
majority of the changes incorporate new materials and new methods of construction.
Most of the changes made were in the installation of electrical wiring and fixtures
for swimming pools.
