HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Statement 1983/08/23 Item 11 COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT • Item 11 Meeting Date 8-23-83 ITEM TITLE: Resolution A/367 Approving Interim Agreement with Tennis Professional u-p (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X ) SUBMITTED BY: Director of Parks and Recreation REVIEWED BY: City Manager The City's Tennis Professional, Gary Quandt, on July 30, 1983 submitted his resignation effective, August 28, 1983, to accept another position out of state. In order to con- tinue the services of a Tennis Professional at the Chula Vista Tennis Center, a proposed Interim Agreement is included as an exhibit. RECOMMENDATION To approve Interim Agreement with Al Hopp through the 1983 calendar year. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION DISCUSSION: On January 11, 1983, the City negotiated an Agreement with Gary Quandt to operate the Chula Vista Tennis Center Complex at Southwestern College. Mr. Quandt has served as the City's Tennis Professional for the past three years. During that time, he has coordinated the Tennis Program for the City at the Tennis Center and outlying areas. Recently, he received an offer of employment at a private club in Oregon. He accepted that position and submitted his resignation on July 30, 1983. He will terminate his contract with the City effective, August 28, 1983. To keep continuity in the tennis program that Mr. Quandt has organized, he has recommended Mr. Al Hopp to assume the responsibilities of Tennis Professional. ac. Hopp a served as an assistant to Mr. Quandt for the past two years. Mr. Hopp number of clientel during his tenure. Previous to his employment at the Tennis Center, Mr. Hopp taught at the Bonita Valley Tennis Center for two years. He is highly qualified and is well liked by all at the Tennis Center. The Interim Agreement recommended would be for the remainder of Mr. Quandt's contract year. This will allow the Recreation Department sufficient time to evaluate the program and the performance of Mr. Hopp to determine whether to solicit RFP's for a new Tennis Professional, or to negotiate a new agreement with Mr. Al Hopp . The main duties of the Tennis Professional will include: 1. The operation and supervision of a pro-shop. 2. The development of a complete Tennis Program, 3.
