HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1990-15465NOT APPROVED RESOLUTION NO. 15465 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA APPROVING THE CONSTRUCTION OF RAISED MEDIANS ON BROADWAY The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows: WHEREAS, on April 25, 1989, the City Council reviewed staff's submittal of the City's RTIP Update/Proposition A Transportation Sales Tax Expenditure Plan to SANDAG, and WHEREAS, the RTIP plan included reprogramming of the Broadway reconstruction projects which was necessary because the original scope-of-work on the Broadway projects were found to be inadequate and had to be revised resulting in substantial cost increases, and WHEREAS, this report had three alternatives and recommended the alternative that included widening the street to 82 feet curb-to-curb width; installation of curb, gutter and sidewalk; and a fully landscaped median, and WHEREAS, because of the construction of the new medians in some areas, it was indicated that Engineering would come back to the City Council for a hearing on the proposed medians, and WHEREAS, staff recommends that, because of safety considerations, raised landscaped medians should be constructed on the entire length of the Broadway improvement projects and, as worked out with the Chamber of Commerce, staff would find raised medians at major intersections with two-way left turn lanes in between acceptable but, if a currently existing raised median is removed during construction, it will be replaced with a raised median, and WHEREAS, on September 14, 1989, the Safety Commission reviewed the proposed reconstruction project for Broadway between "F" Street and the south City limits and recommended installation of median islands as part of the reconstruction project for the purpose of enhancing the safety performance of Broadway. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby authorize construction of raised, landscaped medians on the entire length of the Broadway improvement projects. Resolution No. ]5465 Page 2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that raised medians at major intersections with two-way left turn lanes in between are acceptable, but if a currently existing raised median is removed during construction, it will be replaced with a raised median.
