Meeting Date 8/16/83
ITEM TITLE: Resolution //.3%a ccepting public improvements - Street
Lights on Fourth Avenue ("G" to "H" Streets)
SUBMITTED BY: City Engineer (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X )
REVIEWED BY: City Manager i,
Johnson & Sons Foothill Electric has completed the installation of street
lights on Fourth Avenue ("G" to "H" Streets) in accordance with the contract
awarded by Council Resolution No. 10861 , adopted on May 11 , 1982.
RECOMMENDATION: That City Council accept the public improvements on Fourth
Avenue between "G" and "H" Streets and authorize the final payment to the
contractor.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
The work consisted of installing street lights in conjunction with utility
undergrounding on Fourth Avenue. A final inspection was made on April 7,
1983. The work was completed to the satisfaction of the City Engineer and it
is now appropriate that the City accept this project.
NOTE: The extraordinary delay in completing this project was due to a
revised SOG&E schedule for energizing underground electrical service
points and a warranty problem on one of the luminaires. The contract
contained a clause that automatically extended contract time due to
delays caused by SDG&E. The underground service points were finally
energized on April 6, 1983. The luminaire warranty problem was
corrected on August 5, 1983, when a defective luminaire was replaced
by the contractor.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
The total cost to the City for this project was $13,201 .89, broken down as
follows:
Funds Budgeted in GT-137 $19,000.00
Engineering Costs 2,190.89
Contract Costs 10,185.34
One Street Light Standard
(to replace a defective standard
that the City was to provide) 700.66

FISCAL IMPACT: The increase in annual energy costs for lighting on this
segment of Fourth Avenue will be approximately $539.This increase is due to
the fact that six new street lights were installed, replacing the two that
were existing, in order to improve lighting levels to meet City standards.
