HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Statement 1985/11/12 Item 7 COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT Item 7 Meeting Date 11/12/85 ITEM TITLE: Resolution �� Rejecting bids for "Construction of Park and Playground Improvements at Harborside School , 681 Naples Street, Chula Vista, California" SUBMITTED BY: Director of Public Works/City Engineer 9," Director of Par s and Recreation REVIEWED BY: City Manager (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X ) At 2 p.m. on September 30, 1985, in Conference Room 2 in the Public Services Building, the City Engineer received sealed bids for "Construction of Park and Playground Improvements at Harborside School , 681 Naples Street, Chula Vista, California." The project was included in the 1981-82 budget. The work included demolition, salvage and grading, construction of a lunch arbor, irrigation and planting, A.C. paving, concrete flat work, and other miscellaneous construction. RECOMMENDATION: That the Council 1 . Reject bids. 2. Direct staff to reevaluate the scope of the project with the School District and community groups to develop a revised project. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: Bids were received from three contractors as follows: Bidder Bid Amount 1 . T. B. Penick & Sons, Inc. - San Diego $237,773.00 2. L. R. Hubbard Const. Co. , Inc. - San Diego 244,747.40 3. Karleskint-Crum, Inc. - San Luis Obisbo 262,384.60 The low bid by T. B. Penick & Sons, Inc. was above the Engineer' s estimate of $145,638.25 by $92,134.75 or 63%. The bid also exceeded available budgeted funds of $118,402.09 by $119,370.91 . Staff believes the entire project should be reevaluated as to scope and the work contemplated. Preliminary meetings have already been held with the Harborside School Principal as an initial step toward developing a new project. FISCAL IMPACT: None.
