ITEM TITLE: Resolution / t' Approving agreement with the County of San
Diego for traffic signal installation at the intersection of
Broadway/Moss Street and authorizing the Mayor to execute the
agreement

The intersection of Broadway/Moss Street lies partly within the City and
partly within the County. The intersection has been studied by both agencies
and it has been determined e terms for design, construction,rafunding and l
agreement sets out maintenance
of the traffic signal .
RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopt resolution approving the agreement with
the County of San Diego and authorize the Mayor to execute the agreement.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
With the exception of Broadway/Moss Street, all major intersections on
Broadway in the Chula Vista area are signalized and are located on quarter
mile spacing. This intersection has been experiencing an increasing number of
accidents over the years that would be susceptible to correction by
signalization. Both

This project was considered and approved by the City in the 1982-83 Capital
Improvement Program. The cost of the project and annual maintenance will be
shared equally by the City and County. Currently, $53,000 is available in the
Capital Improvement Fund (Project TS08) to cover the City' s share.
Pursuant to the agreement, the County will act as lead agency and be
responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of the project. It
is anticipated that the County will begin design this fall and construct the
signal early next year.
FISCAL IMPACT: The City's share of the project is estimated at $45,000.
Funds are available ($53,000) in the Capital Improvement Fund (Project TS08).
Annual energy and maintenance cost to the City is estimated at $1 ,800 per year
and would be included in the department's annual o.eratin' bucket.
