On June 14, 1985, the City Council approved the Community Development Block
Grant (CDBG) budget for fiscal year 1985-86. Included in that approved budget
were funds for the organizations listed above. Agreements for supporting
these programs must be approved before funds can be released. Copies of the
proposed agreements are attached.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Council adopt the two resolutions approving
agreements with the two organizations.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
The programs operated by the school and Metro Food Project, Inc. , a non-profit
food bank, are directed to principally low and moderate income persons.
Del Rey Nutrition is a regional occupational training program (ROP) for
restaurant training/operations for Sweetwater Union High School district
students, which provides meals for senior citizens. The agreement with Del
Rey Nutrition Program specifies that the City will pay $4,000 in operating
expenses annually in arrears and that the Sweetwater Union High School
District will submit an annual financial report and activity report.
Metro Food Project, Inc. , provides surplus U. S. Department of Agriculture
(USDA) food and surplus commodities from commercial organizations to low and
moderate income persons, including many seniors, in the South Bay area. The
agreement with the food bank specifies that the City will pay its monthly
utility bills upon submission of valid invoices. Metro Food Project shall
submit one report for one distribution site in the City, listing the number,
gender and ethnicity of clients served.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of the programs, $9,364, will be funded from
the 1985-86 Communit Development Block Grant budget. No general funds will
be involved.
