Change Order No. 2 is necessary to complete the project. Change Order No. 1 provides additional expansion joints and replacement of the tiles in the circle around the fountain. RECOMMENDATION: That Council authorize: 1. Transfer funds from the Revenue Sharing Contingency Fund. 2. Approve Change Order No. 2, Option 2. DISCUSSION: When the plans were developed for the tile replacement, the dimensions were taken from the original plans and specifications. The original specifications called for 8" x 8" tile. When a portion of the two tile rows were removed, it was discovered that the existing tile was a nominal size of 7-1/2" x 7-1/2". The existing dimension will allow the 8" x 8" tiles to fit in the concrete openings with equally spaced grout joints in 53 locations. The metal strips separating the tile strips from the concrete will be removed by City forces. The remaining tile strips contain expansion joints; therefore, in order for the 8" x 8" tile to fit, additional cutting is necessary, and we have two options available: Option 1 . Cut 5,400 lineal feet of concrete 1" in depth on both sides of the existing concrete opening. - Hubbard Saw Cutting $1 .00 per lineal feet $5,400 - Water cleaning of saw blade & cut 650 SUBTOTAL $6,050 - Profit & Overhead 1 ,512 TOTAL $7,562 Ch,,.,a ,.wiiilw lLri f Dated 7 °u f /J Page 2, Item 10 Meeting Date 9/24/85 Option 2. Cut 5,400 lineal feet of 8" x 8" tiles to 7-1/2" x 7-1/2". - 3 saw blades $1 ,500 - 160 hrs. labor @ $25.00 per hr. 2,000 SUBTOTAL $3,500 - Profit & Overhead 875 TOTAL $4,375 The 1 /2" and 1/4" mortar joints are industry standards and will not detract from the appearance of the finished project. It is recommended that Option 2 be implemented from both a price and appearance point of view. There is another option available and that is to return the 8" x 8" tiles and reorder 7-1/2" x 7-1/2" tiles. This is not recommended as a viable option as the cost to return and reorder is $8,700.00 with a three months delivery time. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: A contract for $94,785 was awarded to Klaser Tile company. Funds approved by Resolution 12032 on May 28, 1985 for the Civic Center tile replacement project total cost of $97,556.38, including $2,771 .38 contingency.
