The contract was awarded to Baker & Taylor Company. RECOMMENDATION: That Council extends the contract to over the seriod July 1 , 1985, through June 30, 1986. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: by the City Council of Chula Vista, California The contract provides for the following discounts: C?at 7- 3a- PERCENT OF' ' I VAR* DESCRIPTION STANDARD PRICE 1. Trade Books 42.2% 2. Technical & Textbooks 42.2% to 0% 3. Books of Trade Nature 42.2% 4. Single Binding Editions 38% 5. Fair Trade Books At Fair Trade Price 6. Mass Paperbacks 27% 7. Publisher' s Library Binding 10.2% The contract contains an option to renew for additional one year periods through June 30, 1986, at the same prices and conditions. Both San Diego and Chula Vista are exercising this final one year option. Next year the contract will go out to bid again. San Diego and Chula Vista receive the largest discount off of published book prices in San Diego County. The recommendation for renewal is based on the large discount, integrity of Baker & Taylor in fully applying these discounts, and the fact that Baker & Taylor has been reliable, prompt and responsive. FISCAL IMPACT: In FY 1983-84, $85,000 was expended under the contract with Baker & Taylor and $67,500 was FY expended 985e 86� n Fu 1984-85.
