ITEM TITLE: Resolution / Waiving Business License Fees for Bonita
Village Artists, Auxiliary of Bay Hospital Medical Center, the
Chula Vista Art Guild Incorporated, and the Bonitafest

On June 4, 1985, the City Council approved and adopted Ordinance No. 2113.
This Ordinance authorizes the City Council to waive business license fees for
non-profit or charitable organizations. The City has received requests for
waiver of business license fees from the Bonita Village Artists, Auxiliary of
Bay Hospital Medical Center, the Chula Vista Art Guild, and the Bonitafest.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council approve this resolution waiving business
license fees for the above mentioned organizations.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
At a Council Conference meeting on April 25, 1985, the City Council expressed
the desire to have the ability to waive business license fees for those events
and organizations that help to promote and publicize the City of Chula Vista.
With that in mind, the City Council on June 4, 1985, adopted Ordinance No.
2113 relating to business licenses for promotional events and charitable
organizations.
Bonita Village Artists
The Bonita Village Artists is a non-profit organization formed for the
purposes:
a. To promote community interest in art,
b. To foster fellowship and study between artists, and
c. To provide a means of exhibiting members' work.
The Bonita Village Artists Guild has art events and fine art exhibits
throughout the community on a year-round basis.

Chula Vista Art Guild
The Chula Vista Art Guild was organized in 1945 and a majority of their
members are senior citizens. The Art Guild has extensive participation in the
community through sponsorship of Art Marts and the Children' s Art Fair, and
they have furnished free lessons and art demonstrations to the Boys Club,
Girls Club, Developmental Disabled Children, and the Starlight Center. They
have also worked at downtown art shows, the Civic Center, Jaycees Art Shows,
and the Chula Vista Shopping Center.
Auxiliary of Bay Hospital Medical Center
The Auxiliary is a non-profit organization that has over 100 members and has
been in existence for almost 20 years. For several years, the Auxiliary has
sponsored spring and fall festivals in which crafters from all over the County
and Southern California participate.
Boni taf est
The Bonitafest is an annual event, occurring on October 5th and 6th this year,
that serves to publicize the South Bay area. Proceeds from Bonitafest go to
fund special projects in the South Bay community, scholarships, seminars and
similar activities.
All the above organizations are non-profit and expend much time and effort in
promoting art appreciation and cultural growth in the City of Chula Vista.
