At 2:00 p.m. on May 22, 1985, in Conference Room 2 and 3 in the Public
Services Building, the City Engineer received sealed bids for "City Hall
Remodel in the City of Chula Vista, California." The project was included in
the 1983-84 budget. The work involves the remodeling of the old City Council
Chambers, a portion of the City Council area, the City Clerk area, and the
adjacent hallway.
RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council:
1. Authorize the expenditure of $91,100.
2. Accept bids and award contract to Ronco Construction, La Mesa, in the
amount of $82,831.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
Bids were received from seven contractors as follows:
Bidder Bid Amount
1. Ronco Construction, La Mesa $ 82,831.00
2. Si-Mac Construction, Escondido $ 97,727.00
3. Soltec of San Diego, San Diego $ 99,023.00
4. Sullins Construction Co. , Inc. , Santee $102,000.00

6. DeLise and Associates, Inc. , San Diego $107,165.00

The low bid by Ronco Construction is below the Engineer's estimate of $100,000
by $17,169, or 17%. We have reviewed the low bid and recommend awarding the
contract to Ronco Construction. Contact was made with owners of previous
projects for which this contractor has performed the work. These owners
indicated his work was excellent.
