The project was included in the 1983-84 budget. The work involves the remodeling of the old City Council Chambers, a portion of the City Council area, the City Clerk area, and the adjacent hallway. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council: 1. Authorize the expenditure of $91,100. 2. Accept bids and award contract to Ronco Construction, La Mesa, in the amount of $82,831. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: Bids were received from seven contractors as follows: Bidder Bid Amount 1. Ronco Construction, La Mesa $ 82,831.00 2. Si-Mac Construction, Escondido $ 97,727.00 3. Soltec of San Diego, San Diego $ 99,023.00 4. Sullins Construction Co. , Inc. , Santee $102,000.00 5. O'Neill and Perry Construction Co. , San Diego $102,529.00 6. DeLise and Associates, Inc. , San Diego $107,165.00 7. Kilgallon Construction Company, Inc. , San Diego $110,377.00 The low bid by Ronco Construction is below the Engineer's estimate of $100,000 by $17,169, or 17%. We have reviewed the low bid and recommend awarding the contract to Ronco Construction. Contact was made with owners of previous projects for which this contractor has performed the work.
