The Honorable Len Moore
Vice Mayor of the City of Chula Vista

Dear Len :
Thank you for listening to our presentation this noon
regarding the location of a Superior Court within the South
County Regional Center.
As I indicated to you , I would appreciate a resolution
addressed to the Board of Supervisors from the City of Chula
Vista, as well as the other cities within the South Bay Judicial
District , supporting the location of a Superior Court here. I
would then appreciate your forwarding a copy of that resolu-
tion to Senator Deddeh , Assemblyman Peace, Judge Smith , the
presiding judge of the Superior Court , and Assemblywoman Sunni
Mojonner representing Coronado .
It was Supervisor Bilbray ' s suggestion that any resolution
passed by your City support a proposal for two Superior Court
positions in the South Bay area. The current legislation pro-
vides for one judge to be assigned here. However, our Bar As-
sociation would certainly support an additional judge as the
same is clearly warranted based upon the size of the population
within this Judicial District .
As I indicated to you , I believe it would be prestigious
for the City of Chula Vista to have a Superior Court located
here. It would certainly enhance the image that we are attempt-
ing to establish for this city . For the ease of witnesses and
parties to lawsuits , a court facility located in Chula Vista
would be of great benefit to litigants in the South Bay . It
is obviously time consuming and difficult to travel downtown to
a court facility , both from a parking standpoint and that of
the heavy traffic.
We anticipate a study coming in early March regarding the
economics and propriety of placing the Superior Court here.
The preliminary indication from the consultant is that his
results will be favorable to locating those facilities here
from both a convenience and economic standpoint .

Dear Judge Smith:
Enclosed please find a copy of a resolution which the City
Council of Chula Vista adopted on the 26th of February 1985 .
We feel that the establishment of a branch Superior Court in
the South Bay would be of benefit to all South Bay cities.
