RECOMMENDATION: Place Ordinance on First Reading and Adoption DISCUSSION: The Director of Public Safety and the City Attorney's office have become aware of a cardroom operation by a "nonprofit society, club, or fraternal organization" within the City of Chula Vista. The operation of this card- room by the "nonprofit club" is permitted by the existing Chula Vista Municipal Code Chapter 5 .20 . The operation of a cardroom by a "nonprofit club" is currently exempt from the regulations. _nce this cardroom has been operating at 771 Third Avenue, it has been open after midnight and on Sundays. This operation is exempt from our cardroom ordinance which means we have no control over hours of operation, size of the bets, type of games played or employees operating the games. The proposed ordinance is an emergency ordinance due to the current operation of a cardroom within the City which does not comply with the Chula Vista Municipal Code regulations . The adoption of this ordinance will ensure that all cardrooms within the city comply with the Chula Vista Municipal Code.
