HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-09-2015_ RCC Minutes MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE RESOURCE CONSERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA February 9, 2015 5:00 PM A Regular Meeting of the Resource Conservation Commission of the City of Chula Vista was called to order at 5:01 PM in the Executive Conference Room 103, Building A, located at 276 Fourth Avenue, Chula Vista, California. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Commissioners Coleman, Romo, Sedgwick, Valen and Chair Kappes ABSENT: Commissioner Rahimzadeh MOTION TO EXCUSE: Commissioner Romo moved to excuse Commissioner Valen and Commissioner Vargas from the meeting on January 12, 2015. Commissioner Coleman seconded the motion and it was carried by the following vote: Yes—5 Coleman, Romo, Sedgwick, Valen and Kappes No-0 STAFF PRESENT: Admin Services Manager Beamon, Environmental Services Program Manager France, Environmental Resource Manager Reed, Conservation Specialist Downs, Conservation Associate Ayala and Sr. Secretary Lindsey APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Commissioner Sedgwick moved to approve the minutes of the January 12, 2015, meeting as written. Commissioner Romo seconded the motion and it was carried by the following vote: Yes—5 Coleman, Romo, Sedgwick, Valen and Kappes No-0 PUBLIC COMMENTS: none INFORMATION ITEMS 1. Conservation Specialist Downs and Conservation Associate Ayala gave a presentation to update the Commission about the Georgetown University Energy Prize. 2. Environmental Services Program Manager France gave a presentation about the Community-Based Social Marketing Training that eight employees from Conservation and Environmental Services have participated. The training was with Douglas McKenzie-Mohr, Ph.D. ACTION ITEMS 1. Consideration of 2015 CLEAN Champion Awards framework and nomination form. Environmental Services Program Manager France and Environmental Resource Manager Reed gave information to the commission concerning the time line and nomination form for the CLEAN Champion Awards for 2015. Applications are due no later than 5:00 pm on March 30, 2015. The winners will be introduced at the City Council meeting on Apri128, Page 1 of 2 Resource Conservation Commission Minutes February 9,2015 2015. The commission would like to see the form as fillable and able to be submitted from the City's website. Commissioner Romo moved to accept the framework and nomination form as presented. Commissioner Valen seconded the motion and it was carried by the following vote: Yes—5 Coleman, Romo, Sedgwick, Valen and Kappes No-0 2. Consideration of an alternate RCC representative for the Bayfront Wildlife Advisory Group (WAG) Commissioner Coleman is the RCC representative to WAG. He gave his report of the recent WAG meeting that he attended. He also gave background information as to its purpose and meeting schedule. Commissioner Valen volunteered to be the alternate. Chair Kappes moved to appoint Commissioner Valen as the alternate representative to the Wildlife Advisory Group (WAG). Commissioner Romo seconded the motion and it was carried by the following vote: Yes—5 Coleman, Romo, Sedgwick, Valen and Kappes No-0 ACTIVITY REPORT Continue to list all Action Items on the Activity Report.. STAFF COMMENTS Environmental Resource Manager Reed gave information about the Grant application to Partners for Places for water reuse opportunities as per a recommendation from the Climate Change Working Group. Conservation Specialist Downs gave information about the LED lightbulb sale event at the SDG&E office in Chula Vista on February 17, 2015. COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS Commissioner Coleman gave an update of the Bayfront Cultural Design Committee. Commissioner Romo commented on the current vacancy on the RCC CHAIR'S COMMENTS Chair Kappes also commented on the vacancy on the RCC due to Commissioner Vargas' resignation. She asked the Commissioners to think of people who might like to serve on this commission.
