'1465 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY ;COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA ENDORSING A THREE MAJOR HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM FOR THE SOUTH SAN DIEGO METROPOLITAN AREA. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE-CITY OF CHULA VISTA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS s WHEREAS the growth of the San Diego Metropolitan area continues at a rapid pace, and WHEREAS the vehicular traffic congestion is increasing on the existing highways, and WHEREAS there is a need for immediate action to relieve such traffic oongestion affecting the South San Diego Metropolitan Areas, and WHEREAS the City Planning Commission and the Chambers of Commerce of the Cities of Chula Vista and National City recognise this problem and have adopted a Three Major Highway Improvement Program of vital interest to the South San Diego Metropolitan Areas, and WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby endorse this program NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the Gity of Chula Vista (A.) that the Cities of Chula Vista, National City and San Diego too gether with San Diego County work toward the completion of Euolid Avenue* Fifty-fourth Street and extensions from Alvarado Canyon Freeway to the City of Chula Vista as a main arterial, (B.) that the Master Street Plan of the City of San Diego and the Master Plan of Major Highways of San Diego County be amended to show a new north south State highway connecting U. S. Highways 101 and 395 north of San Diego with the International Border and Highway 75 to be located east of the Cities of Chula Vista and National City, and that eventually this route be added to the California State Highway System and (G.) that funds be made available by the County of San Diego either under the Federal Aid Secondary program or by other means for the improvement and realignment of the County Road known partly as Bonita Road from the City limits of Chula Vista easterly via Bonita, Sweetwater Reservoir and La Preset to U. S. Highway 80 east of the City of El Cajon. Said recommendations are y- k \x • delineated on the attached oopy of et map entitled "Three Major Highway lm.- pravements Of Vital Interest To The South San Diego Metropolitan Areas". BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that immediate action by the Cities of Chula Vista, National City and San Diego, the County of San Diego and the State of California is of prime importance to the welfare and of the future development of not only the City of Chula Vista but also of the entire South San Diego Metropolitan area.
