Council Resolution No. 6132 authorizes the City to participate in a cooperative bid with municipal agencies within the State of California. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt the resolution. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: A total of $210,000 was authorized in FY 1985-86 within the Sewer Service Fund for replacement of the City's 1972 hydraulic excavator. The replacement was funded by the Sewer Service Fund as the hydraulic excavator is used exclusively for the maintenance and repair of storm drain and sanitary sewers. The Flood Control District of the County of Los Angeles has received bids for the purchase of a hydraulic excavator which meets the needs of the City of Chula Vista. The successful bidder, Case Power and Equipment, has indicated by letter that the price and specifications for the County of Los Angeles will be extended to the City of Chula Vista. The cost of this piece of equipment ($120,568) differs substantially from that budgeted. Originally, the Public Works Department intended to replace the hydraulic excavator with another type of equipment: a gradall . However, this type of equipment proved to be unstable in cleaning storm drains when tested. As a consequence, it is recommended that the hydraulic excavator be replaced with another hydraulic excavator. The existing hydraulic excavator will be sold at the County auction in August 1986. FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost for purchasing the hydraulic excavator is $120,568. Funds are available in the FY 1985-86 budget in the Sewer Service Fund (220-2200-5565).
