ITEM TITLE: Resolution / 5 thorizing the Department of General
Services to Purchase Seven Police Pursuit Sedans
SUBMITTED BY: Director of Public Works/City Engineer /111/

I (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X )
REVIEWED BY: City Manager je,„
The current budget provides for the purchase of seven police pursuit sedans.
Council Resolution No. 6132 authorizes the City to participate in a
cooperative bid with the State of California for the purchase. The procedure
requires the adoption of a resolution designating the State as the City's
agent in making the purchase. A service charge of 1 .2% of the total before
taxes is required for each transaction.
RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council adopt the resolution.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
The State contract for 1986 vehicles allows the purchase of vehicles by
political subdivisions of the State provided the product is for public use.
The State offers a police pursuit sedan which meets the City of Chula Vista
needs: a 1986 Dodge Diplomat. The sedan includes a two year, 85,000 mile
power train warranty with no deductible. Any service required will be by the
local Dodge dealer.
The contract provides terms of $200 deductible per sedan if paid within 20
days. The City will pay the invoice in sufficient time to take advantage of
this discount. The price per sedan is $11 ,217 including sales tax and the
1 .2% State service charge. The total purchase price is $78,520. There will ,
however, be an additional charge to transport these seven police pursuit
sedans from Sacramento to Chula Vista of $1 ,145.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost for purchasing these seven police pursuit
sedans and transporting them to Chula Vista is $79,665. Funds are available
in the FY 1985-86 budget in the Equipment Replacement Fund (705-7050-5565) .
