HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Statement 1986/09/16 Item (4) COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT Meeting Date 9/16/86 Unanimous Consent Item ITEM TITLE: Resolution 1�93/Ordering the canvass of the Special Mail Ballot to be held on Tuesday, December 16 , 1986 to be made by the City Clerk SUBMITTED BY : City Cler ( 4/5ths Vote: Yes No Section 17088 of the Elections Code states that the City Clerk shall prepare a certified statement of the results of the election and submit it to the governing body within 28 days of the election; however , because this is an all-mail ballot election , the results will be certified within a week after the election. RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution ordering the City Clerk to canvass the results . DISCUSSION: The Registrar of Voters will begin counting the mail ballots on Wednesday, December 17 beginning at 9 a .m. at the Parkway Community Center , 373 Parkway, Chula Vista . Section 1353 of the Election Code states that ballots are to be received up to midnight on the date of the election - December 16. All ballots having the postmark of December 16 or sooner will be counted the morning of December 17 . The semi-official tally will be announced immediately after the count with the official results following within a week . FISCAL IMPACT: The Registrar of Voters has estimated the cost of the election to be approximately $45,500 .
