ITEM TITLE: Resolution 1�93/Ordering the canvass of the
Special Mail Ballot to be held on Tuesday,
December 16 , 1986 to be made by the City Clerk

Section 17088 of the Elections Code states that the City Clerk
shall prepare a certified statement of the results of the election
and submit it to the governing body within 28 days of the
election; however , because this is an all-mail ballot election ,
the results will be certified within a week after the election.
RECOMMENDATION: Approve the resolution ordering the City Clerk
to canvass the results .
DISCUSSION:
The Registrar of Voters will begin counting the mail ballots on
Wednesday, December 17 beginning at 9 a .m. at the Parkway
Community Center , 373 Parkway, Chula Vista . Section 1353 of the
Election Code states that ballots are to be received up to
midnight on the date of the election - December 16. All ballots
having the postmark of December 16 or sooner will be counted the
morning of December 17 .
The semi-official tally will be announced immediately after the
count with the official results following within a week .
FISCAL IMPACT: The Registrar of Voters has estimated the cost
of the election to be approximately $45,500 .

IT IS HEREBY REQUESTED by the undersigned that the following
item, with the unanimous consent of the City Council of the City of
Chula Vista, be considered and acted upon by the Council pursuant
to the provisions of Sec.2 . 04 .090 of the Chula Vista City Code .
