" 'G' Street Reconstruction Between Third Avenue and Fourth
Avenue in the City of Chula Vista, Califrnia"

At 2:00 p.m. on July 30, 1986, in the Council Chambers in the Public Services
Building, the Director of Public Works/City Engineer received sealed bids for
" 'G' Street Reconstruction Between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue in the City
of Chula Vista, California." The project is included in the 1985-86 budget.
The work to be done consists in general of reconstruction of 'G' Street
between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue in the City of Chula Vista,
California. The work includes removal and disposal of the existing
improvements consisting of AC pavement, base material , concrete curb and
gutter, and driveway approaches. The new work includes grading, asphalt
concrete, processed miscellaneous base, curb and gutter, sidewalk ramps,
driveways, cross gutter, protection and restoration of existing improvements,
and other miscellaneous work.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council accept bids and award contract to Daley
Corporation, San Diego, in the amount of $175,263.00.
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
Bids were received from three contractors as follows:
1 . Daley Corporation, San Diego $175,263.00
2. R. E. Hazard Contracting, Inc. , San Diego 209,251 .00
3. L. R. Hubbard Construction Co. , Inc. , San Diego 216,811 .49
The low bid by Daley Corporation was below the engineer' s estimate of
$232,816.00 by $57,553.00 or 24.7%. We have reviewed the bid and believe it
to be satisfactory and recommend awarding the contract to Daley Corporation.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT:
Funds available from the following account:
a. 'G' Street-Third Avenue to Fourth Avenue Pavement
Reconstruction $286,884.77
Funds required for construction:
a. Contract amount $175,263.00
b. Contingencies (approx. 10%) 17,526.00
Total funds for construction of project $192,800.00
