At 2:00 p.m. on July 30, 1986, in Conference Rooms 2 and 3, the City Engineer
received sealed bids for Third Avenue, Palomar to Hermosa, Street Light
Installation in the City of Chula Vista. The project is funded in the FY
1986-87 CIP (250-2501-GT214). The project consists of installation of 24 new
street light standards and 26 new HPSV luminaires to replace the SDG&E street
lights that are being removed with the existing wooden power poles by the
current utility undergrounding project.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council accept the bids and award the contract to
Bonita Electric of Chula Vista in the amount of $60,201 .21 .
BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable.
DISCUSSION:
Bids were received from five (5) contractors as follows:
1 . Bonita Electric - Chula Vista $60,201 .21
2. Perry Electric Co. - Spring Valley 64,990.00
3. Maco Electric Services - Santee 65,959.50
4. MCR Electrical Construction - Imperial Beach 71 ,392.00
5. Steiny & Co. , Inc. - San Diego 79,263.00
The low bid by Bonita Electric was below the engineer's estimate of
$70,080.00. We have reviewed the low bid and believe it to be excellent and
recommend awarding the contract to Bonita Electric.
The City's project involves installing 24 new 250-watt HPSV street lights on
27-foot concrete standards and 2 new 250-watt HPSV luminaires on traffic
signal standards to replace the street lights being removed by the utility
undergrounding project currently underway.
FISCAL IMPACT: Routine energy and maintenance costs of approximately $4,000
per year for Phase II.
