Currently, no four-year institution exists to meet the educational needs of
the approximately 492,878 residents living south of Highway 94. This
disparity will only become more significant as the population for this area
increases to a projected 616,900 by the year 2000. The development of a
four-year institution in the South Bay is strongly supported by the factors
noted above and will result in a better balance of educational opportunities
for all current and projected residents living south of Highway 94.
FISCAL IMPACT: This resolution in support of a UCSD campus extension does
not represent a negative fiscal impact to the City of Chula Vista. At some
point in the future it may create a positive impact by drawing new industry
and residents to the City.
