SUBMITTED BY: Director of Parks and Recreation REVIEWED: City Manager ,L ' ' (4/5ths Vote: Yes No X ) l J On May 6, 1986, Council accepted the Department's report regarding renewal options for Open Space Contractors. The Department will exercise its option to renew the landscape maintenance contracts in Open Space Maintenance Districts #1,2,4,5,7 and 9. RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopt resolution and renew maintenance contract in Open Space Maintenance Districts #1,2,4,5,7 and 9. BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not Applicable. DISCUSSION: On May 6, 1986, Council accepted the Department's report regarding renewal options for the Open Space Maintenance Contractors. The purpose of reinstituting the renewal option would encourage more competitive bidding from larger companies. Large companies were not willing to submit bids on a yearly basis. They felt the contracts are not attractive enough. Staff also feels that contractors are more responsive when they have a longer contract period at stake. The option clause includes three one-year renewal options and provides a percentage increase based on changes that are determined by San Diego area Consumer Price Index for urban wage earners and clerical workers. The CPI increase from April 1986 to April 1987 was 3.7%. The renewal option contracts for fiscal 1987/88 is recommended for Districts #1,2,4,5,7 and 9.
