The work involves removal and disposal of existing improvements, excavation and grading, asphalt concrete paving, curb and gutter, A.C. berm and slope planting. RECOMMENDATION: That the City Council : 1 . Transfer $14,416.91 from the unencumbered balance of the "G" Street-Third Avenue to Fourth Avenue Pavement Reconstruction to Lower Sweetwater Street Light Modification account. 2. Accept bids and award contract to Banil Corporation, Chula Vista, in the amount of $24,572.80. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: The City Council approved a report recommending a project for street widening and curb and gutter along the north side of "C" Street between Del Mar Avenue and Second Avenue. Bids for this project were received from four contractors, as follows: Bidder Bid Amount 1 . Banil Corporation - Chula Vista $24,572.80 2. Conoley Construction - Lakeside $24,685.31 3. R. E. Hazard Contracting Co. - San Diego $25,555.00 4. Silver Strand Contractor - San Diego $28,440.00 Page 2, Item 5 Meeting Date 5/26/87 The low bid by Banil Corporation is above the Engineer' s Estimate of $22,170 by $2,402.80, or 10.8%. We have reviewed the low bid and believe it to be satisfactory and recommend awarding the contract to Banil Corporation. Attached is a copy of the Contractor's Disclosure Statement. FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Funds Required for Construction: a. Contract Amount $24,572.80 b. Contingencies (approx. 10%) 2,427.20 TOTAL FUNDS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF PROJECT $27,000.00 Source of Funding for Construction: a. Lower Sweetwater Street Light Modification $12,583.09 b.
