Armstrong in Reference to the Design of New Fire Station ''at 80 East "J" Street SUBMITTED BY: Director of Public.10 et XX Y (4/5ths Vote: Yes No ) REVIEWED BY: City Manager On May 8, 1986 , Council approved an agreement with Architect Robert F. Armstrong to design a new fire station at 80 East "J" Street. Staff is now requesting an amendment to this -contract to provide for additional compensation to reflect a change in the scope of the project. RECOMMENDATION: Adopt resolution approving amended agreement and appropriate necessary funds. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: Sometime after this agreement was signed, the City undertook a project which included the replacement of underground fuel tanks throughout City facilities, including the Fire Station at 80 East "J" Street. As a result, we have asked the project architect to include a new electronically controlled underground fuel tank in the design of this new facility. The overall fire station project was reviewed by the Design Review Committee, and this proecess resulted in substantial changes in the design of the fire station. These changes have required the architect to redesign the roof framing plan, foundation plan, exterior elevations, and section/details. Section 14 . 7 . 1 of our agreement with the architect states that if the scope of the project is materially changed, then the compensation shall be equitably adjusted. The design changes that will be made as a result of the recommendations of the Design Review Committee will require the expenditure of sixty-six hours at $40 per hour (66 X $40 = $2 , 640) by the architect. The engineering of the underground fuel tank will require the services of a Mechanical Fuel Systems Page 2 , Item 5 Meeting date 5/12/87 Engineer ($600) , and ten additional hours by Architect Armstrong ($40 X 10 = $400) . The total additional compensation requested is $3, 640 . The original contract provides for a compensation of $11, 090 .
