RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopt resolution awarding contract to C. R. Jaeschke, Inc. BOARDS/COMMISSIONS RECOMMENDATION: Not applicable. DISCUSSION: Bids were advertised and mailed to prospective vendors and two bids were received. Sales Less Bidder Unit Price x 2 Tax Trade-In Amount C. R. Jaeschke, Inc. $13,310 = 26,620 1 ,597.20 250 $27,967.20 San Diego B. Hayman Inc. $14,263 = 28,526 1 ,711 .56 1 ,400 2.8,837.56 Santa Fe Springs The bid of C. R. Jaeschke, Inc. meets specifications and is acceptable to the Director of Parks and Recreation. Cost of New Mowers The purchase price for the two mowers, less trade-in allowance for one mower, is $27,967.20. This is $6,468 more than the amount budgeted of $21 ,500 in 1986/87 to replace the mowers. The main reason for the bid being higher than the budgeted amount is that the new mowers will have a hydraulically operated grass hopper to allow automatic depositing of grass clippings into a container or pick-up truck. This feature just recently became available equipment on all mowers of the model and size we are purchasing. Page 2, Item 5 Meeting Date 2/10/87 This feature adds approximately $2,500 to the cost of each mower but the Parks Department feels it is well worth it. The current mowers require the clippings to be dumped on the ground and then manually shoveled into a dumpster. This manual operation takes 20-30 minutes including the proper cleaning of the surrounding area. The new mowers with the hydraulic hopper will be able to dump the clippings directly into the container thus eliminating the manual aspect of the operation. This improved efficiency will allow the mowers to cover a larger area in the same amount of time. Back-Up Mower Of the two mowers being replaced, staff is proposing that one mower be traded in and the other be retained as a back-up mower. In the past year, one mower was reconditioned and the Parks Department would like to use it as back-up so that mowing work may continue whenever one of the major mowers is down or being repaired. Currently, staff is in a situation that when a major mower goes down, it causes a backlog of mowing work and scheduling adjustments. The back-up mower will not be scheduled for replacement. If it becomes unusable, then the Parks Department will revert to having two main mowers without a hack-up. FISCAL IMPACT: Total cost of the two turf tractors is $27,968 compared to a budget amount of $21 ,500. The additional $6,468 will come from available savings in the Equipment Replacement Fund.
