Appendix Thereto

At their meeting of December 8, 1986, the Board of Appeals and Advisors recommended
adoption of the Uniform Fire Code, 1985 Edition, and appendix, which would replace the
1982 Uniform Fire Code, adopted by Council action on March 22, 1983.
From the facts presented to the Board of Appeals, the Board finds that public necessity,
safety, convenience and general welfare require that the Uniform Fire Code, 1985 Edition,
be adopted by the City Council as the ordinance regulating fire and life safety in the
City.
RECOMMENDATION: That Council adopt the 1985 Edition of the Uniform Fire Code as the
ordinance regulating fire and life safety in the City.
BOARDS OF APPEALS RECOMMENDATION: Recommends adoption.
DIc�1ISSION:
The 1985 Edition shows an improvement over the 1982 Edition in terms of greater clari-
fication. Significent changes have occurred in the following areas:
1. Article 51 - This new article applies to buildings in which hazardous pro-
duction materials are used.
2. Article 74 - This article has been rewritten and applies to compressed gases .
3. Article 81 - This article has been retitled and rewritten and applies to High
Piled Combustible Storage.
4. Appendix III-A - This appendix has been rewritten and applies to Testing Fire
Extinguishing Systems, Standpipes and Combination Systems.
