HomeMy WebLinkAbout2015/01/06 Councilmembers' Comments CO t�LY1 G�YYIQVrLk3ef'S' �OY►'�VYLGY�{-S L��Al l�l-Y) CITIZENS' INPUT ON PRIORITIES FOR 2015 DEC. 18, 2014 IOBS/BUSINESS ATTRACTION • Need to bring more people to Chula Vista for jobs and shopping (jobs/housing balance) • Need to attract corporete employers,well-paying high-quality jobs • City should be more business friendly(shouldn't be too difficult to get permits) • City should market itself better/improve reputation nationwide • Economic growth • Need viable plan to attract retail stores and businesses to Third Avenue • Need a business-friendly sign ordinance PHYSICAL IMPROVEMENTS/MAINTENANCE • Deteriorating west-side neighborhoods need more attention • More money allocated to infrastructure repairs (roads, storm drains, sidewalks) • Increase graffiti abatement • Need better street lighting for public safety • Beautification of marina/bay front • City/water districts assist low-income residents install drought-resistant landscaping SOCIAL SERVICES • Homelessness; help them get services they need • Need truly affordable housing • Increasing opportunities for health care for immigrants ENVIRONMENT • Small businesses/shopping centers should be encouraged to recycle • Trash along freeway onramps and off-ramps needs to be cleaned up TRANSPORTATION /TRAFFIC • More attention to walkabiliry/pedestrian safety,especially areas where seniors live • Need for better public transportation/can't get to east side • Tra�c/parking problems in neighborhoods near Olympic Training Center MISCELLANEOUS • Remove Eye Candy • City needs to do a better job promoting cultural events (plays, concerts, festivals,etc.) • University project • Need to unite neighborhoods • Starlight Parade: need to form a committee to secure future funding for parade • Move veterans' memorial to a more prominent place, near Third Avenue • Recreation fees need to be revamped • City should do more active outreach to Hispanic and Asian communities Respectjedly submitted by Cou�tcilntember Pa1 Aguilar,Jan. 6,1015
