[ 9 ] CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF: July 2, 1974 ITEM TITLE: Resolution - Accepting Bids and Awarding Contract for Asphaltic Concrete INITIATED BY: Purchasing Agent BACKGROUND Bids were received and opened at 11 :00 A.M. on June 24, 1974, in the office of the Purchasing Agent for furnishing Asphaltic Concrete to the City for the period July 1 , 1974 through September 30, 1974. Bids were requested for firm prices on a short term (90 days) contract due to fluctuating material costs. An estimated 1,000 tons of Asphaltic Concrete will be picked up at the Vendor's plant by City trucks. Six vendors were mailed bidding documents . Two vendors submitted bids. See attached Exhibit No. 1 , listing bid results. Sim J. Harris Company's bid price is $1 .20 per ton higher, but it is more economical to pick up at the Sim J. Harris plant that at the Industrial Asphalts plant. See Exhibit No. 2 showing comparative costs. Considering travel time and labor, Jim J. Harris Company's bid price is lowest.
