The San Diego Chapter of International Conference of Building Officials has approved the adoption of this code by all jurisdictions within San Diego County. [ 8 ] CHULA VISTA CITY COUNCIL hfEETI\G OF: Sep[ember 3> 1974 ITEM TITLE: Ordinance - Adopting Uniform Building Code, 1973 Edition, the Appendix and Amendments - First Reading INITIATED BY: Director of Building E Housing BACKGROUND The Board of Appeals and Advisors held a public hearing on February 11 , 1974 to consider adoption of the Uniform Building Code, 1973 Edition, the Appendix and Amendments. After ihe public hearing, the Structural Engineers ' Association of California and the Fire Service of the City of Chula Vista suggested additional amendments that would increase the seismic and fire safety requirements of the Code. These inclusions were incorporated and approved by the Board of Appeals. City Dlanager Recommendation: Concur 10 ' ' � RESOLUTION N0. 46 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY BOARD OF APPEALS RECOMMENDING TO CITY COUNLIL ��`'�'T . THE ADOPTION OF THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE, VOLUME I , 1973 EDITION, n APPENDIX, AND AMENDMENTS. Z WHEREAS, to keep abreast of new materials and construction methods, it is necessary to update the Building Code, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Chula Vista passed Reso- lution No. 5656 requiring the Director of Building and Housing to have codes that are uniform with the other San Diego County jurisdictions, and WHEREAS, the Board of Appeals set the time and place for a hearing on said Code adoption, and notice of said hearing was given by the publication in a newspaper of general circulation in the City at least ten days prior to the date of said hearing, and � WHEREAS, a hearing was held at said time and piace, namely, Monday, February 11 , 1974, before the Board of Appeals and said hearing was thereafter closed, and WHEREAS, after the public hearing, the Structural Engineers ' Association of California and the Fire Service of the Lity of Chula Vista sug9ested additional amendments that would increase the seismic and fire safety requirements of the Code, and WHEREAS, these changes were major in scope, the Board of Appeals re- scinded their action of February 11 , 1974 and approved the inclusion of these additional amendments, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS FOLLOWS: � l . From facts presented to the Board of Appeals, the Board finds that public necessity, safety, convenience and general welfare require the adoption of the 1973 Edition of the Uniform Building Code, Volume I , Appendix and Amendments. 2. The Board of Appeals recommends to the Lity Council that said Uniform Building Code, Volume I , 1973 Edition, Appendix and Amendmen[s, be adopted. PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF APPEALS OF CHULA VISTA, LALIFORNIA, THE EIGHTH DAY of July, 1974, by the following vote, to-wit: AYES: Members Smith, Welsh, Johnson, Offerman, Barajas, and Dalseth NOES: None ABSENT: None 1a
