ORDINANCE N0. 1598 . _
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AD4EAtDING
SECTIONS 14 . 17 , 14 . 18 AND 14 . 19 OF THE CHULA VISTA
CITY CODE , ALL RELATING TO THE UNIFORM FIRE CODE
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does ordain as
folloias :
SECTION I : That Sections 14 . 17 , 14 . 18 and 14 . 19 of Chapter 14
of the Chula Vista City Code be , and the same are hereby amended to read
as follows :
Sec . 14 . 17 . Uniform Fire Code , 1973• Edition;

There is hereby adopted by reference that certain document
known and designated as the Uniform Fire Code and the Appendix
thereto, 1973 Edition, as compiled and publ.ished by the Inter-
national Conference of Building Officials and the i4estern Fire
Chiefs ' Association, three (3) copies of whi.ch are on file in
the office of the City Clerk. Said document is hereby adopted
as the Fire Code of the City of Chula Vista , for the purpose of
prescribi.ng regulations governing conditions hazardous to life
and property from fire or explosion , and each and all such
regulations , provisions , penalties , conditions and terms of
said Uniform Fire Code are hereby referred to , adopted and made
a part hereof as though fully set forth herein, excepting such
portions as are hereinafter deleted , modified or amended.
Sec . 14 . 18 . Definitions .
Administrator. i�'henever the iaord "administrator" is used
in the Uniform Fire Code , it shall be held to mean the City
Dlanager.
_ : Sec. 14 . 19 . Additions and/or Deletions .
There is hereby added to the Uniform Fire Code , 1973 Edition
the following amendments to read as folloias :
ARTICLE 1 , SECTION 1 . 205 IS Ab4ENDED BY DELETING IT IN ITS
ENTIRETY AND ADDING A NEl4 SECTION TO READ AS FOLLOWS :
Sec. 1 . 205 . Authority .
The chief and all members of the department shall have
the powers of a police officer iahile performing their duties
under this ordinance .
ARTICLE 13 , SECTION 13 . 301 IS AMENDED BY ADDING NEW SUB-
SECTIONS AS FOLLOWS :
Sec. 13. 301 (d) - Installation of Fire Hydrants .
Fire hydrants where required in all subdivisions , apart-
ment complexes , commercial developments , etc . shall be
installed in an operable condition, and access roads shall
be constructed and maintained in passable condition prior
to any combustible construction being commenced on the
site .
Sec. 13 . 301 (e) - Stop Orders .
iVhenever any work is being done contrary to the provi-
sions of this Code , the chi.ef may order the work stopped
by notice in writing served on the owner or agent , and any
such persons shall forthivith comply with said notice until
Iauthorized by the chief to proceed.
ARTICLE 13 , SECTION 13. 307 IS AMENDED BY ADDING NEti4 SUB-
SECTIONS AS FOLLOiVS :
Sec . 13 . 307 (e) - Sale or Installation.
No person shall sell , offer for sale or install any fire
alarm signaling device or system without first having ob-
tained a permit from the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Such
device or system shall be approved by a nationally recognized
testing laboratory having re-examination and labeling service ,
and bears the label , Decalcomania, or other evidence of ap-
proval by such testing authority.
Sec . 13 . 307 (f) - Bond Required.
No person shall sell or solicit the sale or installation
of any fire alarm signaling system or device designated or
intended to indicate a fire emergency without first. having
filed with the Finance Officer of the City a surety bond in
fauor of the City in the amount of $1 ,000 , �ahi.ch bond shall
be approved as to form by the City Attorney. The condition
of said bond shall be that any person injured by any mis-
representation or fraud or breach of contract of the princi-
pal acting in the course and scope of his occupation or
business , or by any officer , agency or employee of said
principal acting in the course and scope of his employment
or agency , may recover against said bonds damages occasioned
by such injury.
Sec. 13 . 307 (g) . -
The provisions of this section shall not apply to fire
alarm signaling systems installed as an integral part of
any approved automatic fire extinguishing system: or an ap-
proved fire alarm signaling system designed or installed
as required by the ,building laias of the City and the Health
and Safety Code of the State or which are otherwise specif-
ically authorized by a building permit .
SECTION II : This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force on the thi.rty-first day from and after its passage and approval .
