HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1979-1887 ORDINANCE N0. 1887 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AMENDING TITLE 2 OF THE CHULA VISTA MIJPIICIPAL CODE BY ADDING THERETO A NEW CHAPTER 2.09 CREATING THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY By an unanimous vote on January 2, 1980, the City Council adopted the ordinance which creates the position of Director ' of Public Safety. The position becomes effective on February 1, 1980 and remains until July 1, 1981 unless the City Council extends the term. The position cnnsolidates the powers and duties of the Police Chief and the Fire Chief. Copies of the ordinance are available at the office of the City Clerk, City Hall, 276 Pourth Avenue. enn'e M. Fulasz, City Clerk MC d 6 � . �' � . • . � � G� ORDINANCE NO. 1887 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AMENDING TITLE 2 OF THE CHULA VISTA MUNICIPAL CODE BY ADDING THERETO A NEW CHAPTER 2. 09 CREATING THE POSITION OF DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does orclain as follows: SECTION I : That Title 2 of the Chula Vista Municipal Code be, and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto a new Chapter 2 . 09 to read as follows: Chapter 2 .09 Director of Public Safety Sec. 2. 09 . 010 Director of Public Safety - Created. There is hereby created the position of the Director of Public Safety who shall assume those powers and duties as set forth herein upon the effective date of this ordi- nance on February 1, 1980. Said position shall remain in being to and until July 1, 1981 .unless the City Council shall by ordinance extend the term of said position in- cluding the consolidation of those powers and -duties of the Police Chief and Fire Chief as herein stated; provided, however, the City Council may at any time earlier than July 1, 1981 by ordinance eliminate said position of Director of Public Safety. Sec. 2. 09 . 020 Director of Public Safety - Appointment - Organizational Procedures. The City Manager, pursuant to the provisions of I Section 500 of the City Charter, shall appoint the Director of Public Safety as an unclassified department head. i Sec. 2 . 09. 030 Director of Public Safety - Powers and Duties. The Director of Public Safety shall assume all the powers and duties presently assigned by the Charter of I the City of Chula Vista, the Chula Vista Municipal Code , the laws of the State of Cali£ornia and administrative directive of the City Manager, to the positions of Police Chief and Fire Chief as such powers and duties are so assigned to said position on the effective date of this ordinance. SECTION ZI: This ordinance shall take effect and be in full force on the thirty-first day from and after its adoption. Presented and Approved as to Form by � George D.
