ORDINANCE NO. 1830 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CZTY OF CHULA VISTA AMENDING
TITLE 10 OF THE CHULA VISTA MUNICIPAL CODE BY
ADDING TO CHAPTER 10. 08 CERTAIN DEFINITIONS
RELATING TO BICYCLES, AND AMENDING -CHAPTER 10 . 72
THEREOF REGULATING THE PRIVATE SALE OR PURCHASE
OF BICYCLES AND ADDING CERTAIN REQUIREMENTS FOR
BICYCLE SALES REPORTS AND ALLOWING OPERATION OF
BICYCLES UPON THE SIDEWALKS IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS
UNLESS POSTED
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does ordain
as follows : '
SECTION I : That Chapter 10. 08 of the Chula Vista Municipal
Code be, and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto the follow-
ing definitions :
Sec. � 10 . 08.030 Bicycle.
"Bicycle" means any device upon which any person may
ride, propelled by human power through a belt, chain or
gears, and having either two or three wheels in tandem
or tricycle arrangement, excepting therefrom any such
device not more than three feet in height used by small
, children.
Sec. 10.08. 031 Bicycle Dealer.
"Bicycle Dealer" means any person, firm, partnership,
or corporation which is engaged wholly or partly in the
business of selling bicycles, or buying or taking in
trade bicycles for the purposes of resale, selling or
offering for sale , or otherwise dealing with bicycles,
� whether or not such bicycles are owned by such person
or entity. The term also includes agents or employees
of such person or entity.
Sec. 10 . 08. 032 Bicycle Lane. �
"Bicycle Lane" means any lane within the roadway desig-
nated by signs and markings for the operation of bicycles.
Sec. 10 .08.033 Bicycle Path.
"Bicycle Path" means any specifically designated area
for bicycle travel , physically separated from the roadway.
Sec. 10. 08. 034 Bicycle Route.
"Bicycle Route" means any route recommended for bi-
cycle travel which may include bicycle paths and public
streets for accommodating bicycle riders .
Sec. 10 .08 .035 Cyclist.
"Cyclist" means - any bicycle operator.

SECTION IZ: That Section 10 . 72 . 080 of the Chula Vista
Municipal Code is hereby iepealed and -Section 10. 72 .090 of the
Chula Vista Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows :
Sec. 10 . 72 .090 Bicycle Dealers - Bicycle Sales
Reports Required.
Any person buying, selling or trading used bicycles
within the City of Chula Vista is hereby required to
make a report to the Licensing Agent within thirty days
giving the name, address and telephone number of all
persons either buying, selling or trading used bicycles
and the bicycle manufacturer, type, frame number, and
bicycle license number, if any.
SECTION III: That Chapter 10 . 72 of the Chula Vista Municipal
Code be, and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto a new Section
10 . 72. 190, to read. as follows :
Sec. 10. 72 .190 Operation Upon Sidewalks.
Persons may operate bicycles upon sidewalks within
residential areas , provided, however, no person shall
ride a bicycle upon a sidewalk within business districts
as described by this Code , nor shall any person ride
upon any other sidewalk within this .City which has been
posted by the Director of Public Works , upon direction
of the City Council, with signs prohibiting such riding.
SECTION IV: This ordinance shall take effect and be in full
force on the thirty-first day from and after its passage and approval.
