HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1996-18469 RESOLUTION NO. 18469 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA APPROPRIATING $122,364 FROM FUND 214 SUPPLEMENTAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES FUND (SLESF) - AB 3229, CITIZENS OPTION FOR PUBLIC SAFETY SERVICES FOR PAYING FOR THE SIX OFFICERS ADDED UNDER THE UNIVERSAL HIRING GRANT, $184,044 FOR EQUIPMENT PROCUREMENT AND 950,000 FOR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES WHEREAS, the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Program authorizes the U. S. Department of Justice, under the direction of the U, S. Attorney General, to provide funding to local governments for additional sworn law enforcement officers; and WHEREAS, during the FY 1996-97 Budget process, Council was apprised of a $450,000 allocation to the City under the COPS Universal Hiring Grant; and WHEREAS, it is recommended that the City Council appropriate $122,384 from AB 3229 - Citizens Option for Public Safety in order to pay the required local metoh funding for the six officers added under the Universal Hiring Grant; and WHEREAS, after paying for the six officer local match, 9199,569 remains available for local enforcement equipment and services and the Police Department recommends these funds be appropriated for the following: Equipment - 9126,000 Patrol Vehicles & Associated Equipment (Radio, MDT, etc.) $110,000 K-9 dog and related equipment $ 6,000 Purchase of a Firewall 9 10,000 Minor CIP- 923,569 Automated Traffic Ticketing $ 23,569 Services- 950,000 Community Outreach 9 25,000 Training &Strategic Planning $ 25,000 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby appropriate 9122,364 from Fund 214 Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund (SLESF) ~ AB 3229, Citizens Option for Public Safety Services for paying for the six officers added under the Universal Hiring Grant, 9184,044 for equipment procurement and 950,000 for local law enforcement services as set forth hereinabove.
