HomeMy WebLinkAbout2013/03/05 Special Orders of the Day- SBCS Promise Neighborhood Chula Vista Promise Neighborhood Kathie Lembo Mauricio Torre Planning Grant •In 2011, Congress approved $30 million in three to five years of funding for Promise Neighborhoods, providing 15 planning grants of up to $500,000 each, and six implementation grants of $4-$6 million each. •250 application were submitted, SBCS scored number 3 •SBCS’ implementation grant was submitted in July 2012 Implementation Grant SouthBayCommunityServiceshasbeenawarded $4.9milliontofundthefirstyearofa$27.8million,5- yeargranttoexecuteacommunity-ledplanthatwill supportacademicexcellenceandcollege-bound aspirationsforallchildreninChulaVista’sCastlePark neighborhood. ChulaVistaPromiseNeighborhoodhasdevelopedan impressiveplanforaseamlesscontinuumof‘cradleto career’solutionsthatwillcreatehighexpectationsforall childrenandprovideaclearandviablepathwayto collegeandcareersuccess.
