HomeMy WebLinkAbout2012/09/18 Special Orders of the Day- CV LRT Corridor Improvements Project Study Report Chula Vista Light Rail Corridor Improvements Project Study Report September 18, 2012 1 Interstate-5 Multi-modal Study area 2 Background Need to improve movement of people  and goods along, across and adjacent to the Interstate-5 corridor study area. ◦ Initially prepared Interstate-5 Multi-modal Corridor Study which evaluated a No Build and Seven Concept Alternatives (1 to 7) ◦ On October 26, 2011, the SANDAG Board of Directors adopted the 2050 Regional Transportation Plan and incorporated the recommendations of the I- 5 Multi-modal Corridor Study (Concept Alternative 2) ◦ Rail corridor improvements were identified as the highest priority for Chula Vista. 3 Project Milestones/Schedule Preliminary Design of LRT/Freight Concept Alignments  ◦ 9/21/09 to 11/16/09 -Complete Initial Environmental Constraints Analysis  ◦ 11/17/09 to 1/29/10 Coordinate with Stakeholders/Regulatory Agencies/Solicit  Feedback/Address Comments ◦ 11/17/09 to 1/20/10 LRT/Freight Preliminary Cost Estimates  ◦ 1/21/10 to 2/18/10 Prepare Draft LRT/Freight Project Initiation Document  ◦ 1/15/10 to 2/22/10 Develop Project Study Report/PDS, Begin Preliminary Environmental  Analysis Report, Coordinate Regional Transportation Plan ◦ 11/3/09 to 4/3/10 Provide Input Supporting Draft 2050 Regional Transportation Plan  ◦ April 2010 4 Rail Corridor Improvements Freight Rail Improvements  ◦ Serves Peak Period Trips ◦ Provides Congestion Relief ◦ Provides Travel Time Savings ◦ Provides Alternatives to Single Occupancy Vehicles ◦ Serves Goods Movement ◦ Compatible with Regional Smart Growth Planning ◦ Minimizes Environmental Impacts ◦ Capital, Operations, and Maintenance Costs 5 Trolley Improvement Projects 6 Rail Grade Separation Rankings 1.
