Buff-A-Block
Program
Buff-A-Block
Established in 2008 to allow organizations, corporations, schools and
residents to participate in enhancing City of Chula Vista’s
neighborhoods and communities by removing graffiti/litter/weeds.
Commitment to “adopting”a particular location.
Designed to be fun and educational, to promote civic responsibility,
community spirit and to provide an opportunity to accomplish
something positive.
Helps school children earn community service hours.
Locations can be on public or private property and can range from a
single structure, or an area of one or multiple blocks.
Operates with minimum resources from the Public Works
Department.
Volunteer Groups
Graffiti Busters, Turning The Hearts Center, CV Peace,
South Bay Community Services, South Bay Family
YMCA, South Bay Family YMCA Earth Service Corps,
Girl Scout Troop 5063, and resident groups
Over 900 volunteers (combined)
Cleaned over 60,000 sq ft of graffiti
Cleaned over 2,000 poles, signs and utility boxes
Spent over 4,000 hours cleaning
Approx. value of work is $100,000
