During the event…
•Drop, cover and hold on
•Stay away from windows
and glass
•Stay indoors until shaking
stops
•If outdoors, find a clear spot and drop to the ground
•If in a vehicle, pull over to a clear location and stop

When the shaking stops…
•Check yourself for injuries, then others
•If outdoors, find a clear spot and drop to the ground
•Carry out a hazard hunt, examine your home for
small fires, fire hazards, or gas leaks. Turn off the
gas if you think it’s leaking
•Expect aftershocks, and only leave your home
if it is unsafe
Make Your Home Fire Safe
•Create a defensible space
–Remove all dead and dying
vegetation
–Trim tree canopies regularly
–Remove leaf litter from yard,
sprinklers and gutters
–Remove or prune vegetation near
windows
Escape Fire Danger Safely
•Plan several different escape
routes
–Identify a meeting place
•Designate an out-of-state
contact
–Use a landline instead of a
cell phone
•Register with AlertSanDiego
–To have emergency Reverse 9-1-1 notifications sent to your
cell phone
