HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1996-18386 RESOLUTION NO. 18386 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA, CALIFORNIA, CALLING AND GIVING NOTICE OF THE HOLDING OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL RUNOFF ELECTION TO BE HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 1996 FOR SEATS 3 AND 4 AND REQUESTING THE BOARD QF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF SAN DIEGO TO CONSOLIDATE THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL RUNOFF ELECTION WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE DATE PURSUANT TO SECTION 10403 OF THE ELECTIONS CODE WHEREAS, under the provisions of the Charter of the City of Chula Vista, a Special Municipal Runoff Election shall be held on Tuesday, November 5, 1996 for the candidates who received the highest number of votes at the General Municipal Election held on March 26, 1996; and WHEREAS, it is desirable that the Special Municipal Runoff Election be consolidated with the Statewide General election to be held on the same date and that within the city the precincts, polling places, and election officers of the two elections be the same, and that the San Diego County Registrar of Voters canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Runoff election and that the election be held in all respects as if there were only one election. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL does resolve, declare, determine, and order as follows: Section 1. That a Special Municipal Run-off Election is hereby called for Council Seats 3 and 4, to be held on November 5, 1996. Section 2. That pursuant to the requirements of Section 23302 of the Elections Code, the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Diego is hereby requested to consent and agree to the consolidation of the Special Municipal Runoff Election with the Statewide General election on Tuesday, November 5, 1996 for the purpose of conducting a runoff election for Council Seats 3 and 4. Section 3. That the San Diego Registrar of Voters is authorized to canvass the returns of the Special Municipal Runoff Election. The election shall be held in all respects as if there were only one election, and only one form of ballot shall be used. Section 4. That the Board of Supervisors is requested to issue instructions to the County Registrar of Voters to take any and all steps necessary for the holding of the consolidated election. Section 5. That the City of Chula Vista recognizes that additional costs will be incurred by the County by reason of this consolidation and agrees to reimburse the County for any costs.
