Dear Chula Vista City Council:
The Portfolio Manager tool provided by Environmental Protedion Agency Energy Star for Commercial
Buildings has become the recognized standard for both voluntary and mandatory commercial real estate
energy use disclosure in the State of California and throughout the United States.
San Diego has a unique and historical relationship with Energy Star for Commercial Buildings. In 1999, the
Ridgehaven Building here in San Diego was the very first commercial building in the United States to use
the Portfolio Manager tool to earn the Energy Star label.
San Diego, including all of San Diego County, has moved from 19`h place in 2011 to 15th place in the nation
on the EPA's 2012 ranking of the Top 25 Cities with the Most Energy Star Certified Buildings — with 123
buildings.
As the commercial real estate industry continues a major transition to greater energy use analytics and
trensparenty, there are opportunities for Chula Vista to build on ihis historic legacy and further establish a
leadership position.
San Diego Energy Desk is a commercial real estate consultancy focused on integrating strategic energy

Energy use intensity(EUI)varies widely among buildings. One of There is a wide variation in operating characteristics among

The 4th Anoual Holiday Shop was held last December. This event helps low income families F^���.� °�''' �� � �
identified by FRC staffand local schools. Parents are invited to come ro the shop and select a new , � �' �'� "/
toy/gift for each of the'v children and receive a holiday food bag. Volunteers were on hand to �;,;r� � ��"�_.� . �-��
assis[ wi[h gift wrapping. Over 200 families were assisted, consisting of 216 children from � �. �a�..r �
eiementary schools(CVESD)and 208 middle/high schools(SUHSD). Santa Shop was sponsored :.�� � .K� . ,.�(?,�
