HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1965-3944RESOLUTION NO. 3944 RESOLUTION NO. 3944 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA URGING THE EXTENSION OF RAILROAD SWITCHING LIMITS TO THE SOUTHERLY BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows : WHEREAS , the present switching limits of the San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railroad, and their parent company, the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, and the Santa Fe Railroad, located at the southerly limits of the City of National City create a situation which imposes an additional burden on goods being shipped on the Santa Fe Railroad over San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railroad lines into and from the City of Chula Vista in the form of switching charges paid by shippers on Santa Fe Railroad to the San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railroad, and WHEREAS , said economic burden imposes additional production costs to all present and future industry and manufacturing operations located in the City of Chula Vista south of the present switching limits , and WHEREAS , said additional costs severely limit and restrict the expansion of industrial development within the City of Chula Vista to the detriment of the entire economic community, and WHEREAS , it is highly desirable to achieve a greater equity for present and potential industries by extending said switching limits from the present location at the southerly city limits of the City of National City to the southerly city limits of the City of Chula Vista , more particularly described as Salt Works Station, San Diego and. Arizona Eastern, Coronado Branch, Station No. 301 , Mile Post 9 . NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Chula Vista that this Council does hereby urge the San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railroad and their parent company, the Southern Pacific , and Santa Fe Railroad to immediately apply to the Interstate Commerce Commission for an extension of said switching limits to the Salt Works Station, San Diego & Arizona Eastern, Coronado Branch, Station No. 301, Mile Post 9 , in order to facilitate and stimulate r industrial growth in the City of Chula Vista and provide more equitable treatment to existing industries who are primarily dependent upon the railroads for the shipment of their products and receipt of raw material. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council endorses said extension of switching limits and is prepared to assist said railroads in any and all ways possible or desired, to achieve this result, and will join with them in presenting arguments to the Interstate Commerce Commission. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and he is herebe directed to forward certified copies of this resolution to the Santa Fe Railroad Company , the San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railroad Company, the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, and to the Interstate Commerce Commission.
