RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
URGING THE EXTENSION OF RAILROAD SWITCHING LIMITS TO THE
SOUTHERLY BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows :
WHEREAS , the present switching limits of the San Diego &
Arizona Eastern Railroad, and their parent company, the Southern
Pacific Railroad Company, and the Santa Fe Railroad, located at the
southerly limits of the City of National City create a situation
which imposes an additional burden on goods being shipped on the
Santa Fe Railroad over San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railroad lines
into and from the City of Chula Vista in the form of switching charges
paid by shippers on Santa Fe Railroad to the San Diego and Arizona
Eastern Railroad, and
WHEREAS , said economic burden imposes additional production
costs to all present and future industry and manufacturing operations
located in the City of Chula Vista south of the present switching
limits , and
WHEREAS , said additional costs severely limit and restrict
the expansion of industrial development within the City of Chula Vista
to the detriment of the entire economic community, and
WHEREAS , it is highly desirable to achieve a greater equity
for present and potential industries by extending said switching
limits from the present location at the southerly city limits of the
City of National City to the southerly city limits of the City of
Chula Vista , more particularly described as Salt Works Station, San
Diego and. Arizona Eastern, Coronado Branch, Station No. 301 , Mile
Post 9 .
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Chula Vista that this Council does hereby urge the San Diego &
Arizona Eastern Railroad and their parent company, the Southern
Pacific , and Santa Fe Railroad to immediately apply to the Interstate
Commerce Commission for an extension of said switching limits to the
Salt Works Station, San Diego & Arizona Eastern, Coronado Branch,
Station No. 301, Mile Post 9 , in order to facilitate and stimulate
r
industrial growth in the City of Chula Vista and provide more equitable
treatment to existing industries who are primarily dependent upon the
railroads for the shipment of their products and receipt of raw material.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Council endorses said
extension of switching limits and is prepared to assist said railroads
in any and all ways possible or desired, to achieve this result, and
will join with them in presenting arguments to the Interstate Commerce
Commission.
