HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1965-3731 RESOLUTION NO. 3731 RESOLUTION NO. 3731 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA URGING THE LOCATION OF THE NEW STATE MENTAL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IN THE SOUTH BAY AREA The City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby resolve as follows : WHEREAS , the State Department of Corrections has been working for two years to establish a location for a new and vitally needed state mental correctional facility in the San Diego County area, and WHEREAS , the City Council of the City of Chula Vista has heretofore, by Resolution No. 3689 , adopted on the 20th day of April, 1965 , supported the location of such a facility in the San Diego County area, and WHEREAS , the preferred sites for such a facility in the Mira Mesa area, in close proximity to the University of California in '54n Diego have been vetoed by the Assemblyman from said area, and WHEREAS , the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, on Wednesday, May 19 , 1965 recommended the budgeting of 1. 2 million dollars for the acquisition of a site in the Poway area, and WHEREAS , it is the opinion of a substantial citizens committee, including members of the Chula Vista City Council, that several sites in the South Bay area could be acquired at a more reasonable cost, the land development accomplished on a more economical basis , the problem of transportation to the University of California in San Diego be more efficiently resolved by the to date new freeway system, and that/no objections from local citizens have been received. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista requests that the Director of the State Department of Corrections , Mr. Walter Dunbar, carefully examine the proposals of the citizens committee, and further urges the State Department of Corrections and the State Assembly to give serious consideration to a site for said correctional facility -1- r in the South Bay area of San Diego County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chula Vista strongly supports such a move in the best interests of benefiting all persons in the San Diego area by increasing mental health and research facilities and improving the economic wellbeing of the entire San Diego area. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Chula Vista be, and he is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the State Department of Corrections and the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.
