RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ChL~A VISTA
VRGING FEASIBILITY SURVEY FOR SAN DIEGO BAY CROSSING
"
WHEREAS. San Diego's economy has been plagued for sometime with
unemployment, and
WHEREAS, we need to create jobs to bolster a faltering economy,
and
WHEREAS, a modern trans-bay crossing would fulfill the economic
development of the entire metropolitan area as well as the San.
Diego Bay tidelands, and
IVHEREAS, a modern trans-bay crossing will mean 30 to 50 million
dollars worth of construction work in San Diego over the next
three years at a time when we desperately need jobs, and
. WHEREAS, in times of national emergency most efficient use of our
militarY strength is dependent upon rapid crossing of San Diego
Bay and,
WHEREAS, the existing ferry facilities have proven too slow and
inadequate to meet this need and,
WHEREAS, the only alternative at present to the three-quarter
mile bay crossing is a twenty-two mile detour and,
VIHEREAS. early and full development of the Port of San Diego and
the entire San Diego Bay area is dependent upon a modern trans-bay
; crossing and,

WHEREAS, the Silver Strand State Park is the only State beach
park in San Diego County and is being used at a mere fraction of
i~poterttial due to its inaccessibility, and .
WHEREAS, the beautiful Silver Strand Stato Park should be accessible
to' all people of San Diego County, and
V~EREAS, the Coronado Chamber of Commerce and many other civic
and professional organizations throughout San Diego County have
already endorsed the need for a modern trans-bay crossing,
NOVl THEREFORE, be it resolved that the City Council of the City
of Chula Vista urges the immediate initiation of a feasibility
survey to determine the type of crossing and its route, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitably prepared copy of this
resolution be forwarded to the Governor of the State of California,
the Honorable Edmund C. Brown; the Honorable Hugo Fisher, State
Senator; and Assemblymen from San Diego County, the Honorable
Frank Luckel, James ~ills. Sheridan Hegland and Jack Schrade;
and the Honorable Bob Wilwon, Congressman from San Diego and
news media in San Diego County.
