HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 2013-139 RESOLUTION NO. 2013-139 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA AUTHORlZfNG SUBMITTAL OF FEDERAL FISCAL YEAR 2013/2014 HIGHWA Y SAFETY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM CYCLE 6 GRANT APPLICA nONS AND COMMITTING MATCHING FUNDS THEREFOR WHEREAS, the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP), codified as Section 148 of Title 23, United States Code (23 U.S.c. SI48), remains as one of the core federal-aid programs in the new federal surface transportation act, "Moving Ahead for Progress in the 2 I st Century" (MAP-21), which was signed into law on July 6, 2012; and WHEREAS, on Monday, April 29, 2013, Caltrans Division of Local Assistance announced Cycle 6 Call for Projects for the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP); and WHEREAS, this call for projects is through its competitive Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant program; and WHEREAS, Caltrans expects the HSIP Cycle 6 funding apportioned to local agencies to be approximately $150 million; and WHEREAS, for a project to be eligible, a specific problem must be identified for correction and the proposed countermeasure must correct or substantially improve the condition: and WHEREAS, City staff recommends applying for HSIP grant funds and has identified the following two different types of projects: . Adaptive traffic signal system . Modify an existing traffic signal at an intersection to reduce the accident rate; and WHEREAS, these projects are: I. Expansion of Adaptive Traffic Signal System: East "H" Street between Hidden Vista Drive to Tierra Del Rey Telegraph Canyon Road between Canyon Plaza Driveway to Buena Vista Way 2. Traffic Signal Modifications at four intersections: Fourth Avenue!'']'' Street Hilltop Drive/"L" Street Third Avenuef'H" Street Third A venue!''!'' Street Resolution No. 2013-139 Page No.2 NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby authorize submittal of Federal Fiscal Year 2013/2014 Highway Safety Improvement Program Cycle 6 grant applications and commit matching funds therefor.
