HomeMy WebLinkAboutReso 1997-18629 RESOLUTION NO. 18629 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA ACCEPTING A GRANT OF $10,000 FROM THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF FISH AND GAME (CDFG) FOR STAFF COSTS RELATED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CONCEPT AND IMPLEMENTATION PROGRAM FOR AN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES INSTITUTE WHEREAS, on October 28, 1993, the City Council adopted a General Plan Amendment and General Development Plan for the Otay Ranch which included a site designation for a future four-year university; and WHEREAS, on May 28, 1996, the City Council authorized staff to include draft policy language relating to the proposed university site in the City's Draft MSCP Subarea Plan to ensure that a range of habitat preserve plan alternatives would be adequately analyzed within the Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) for the MSCP; and WHEREAS, on July 16, 1996, the City Council re-established the University Task Force to work with City staff in evaluating the currently designated university site on the Otay Ranch, as well as other options which are being evaluated In conjunction with the Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP); and WHEREAS, on November 26, 1996, City staff provided Council with an update on the University Task Force activities, which included a recommendation by the Task Force to pursue an environmental sciences institute with University of California at San Diego (UCSD) officials that could be located at or near the designated university site on the Otay Ranch; and WHEREAS, on November 26, 1996, the City Council directed City staff to open up discussions with interested parties on the concept of an environmental sciences institute. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby accept a grant for $10,000 from the State of California for staff costs related to the development of a concept and implementation program for an environmental sciences institute.
