CITY ENGINEER TO REFLECT THE REVISED SPEED LI?`4IT
\\'~REAS; City staff completed Eneineerine and Traffic Surve}• for Brand vine
Avenue between O]S~rtpic Pazkway and East Palomaz Street in accordance with the California
Vel-acle Code. which indicates that the posting of speed limits be determined by an Engiineering
and Traz"~ic Survey for each street with a posted speed limit within the City; and-
R'Z-IEREAS, as described in the California Vehicle Code, ihz speed sun'ey shall include
I) Prevailing speeds as determined by traffic engineering measurements; 2) Accident records;
and 3) Trafnc/roadside conditions not readily appazent to the dm'er; and
V~'~-IEREAS, the Ivfanual on Uniform Trafnc Control Devices (A4UTCD) states that the
speed limit shall be established at the nearest Smph increment of the SS'" percentile speed. Also,
if the mph reduction is applied; the Engineering and Traffic Survey shall document in wTiii_ng
the conditions and justification for the lower speed limit and be approved by a registered Civil or
Traffic Eneineer: and
W7-IEREAS, based on the S5~' percentile speed of the roadway, as well as other roadway
characteristics outlined in the Engineering/Traffic Survey, staff has determined that the speed
limit on Brandywine Avenue should be increased to 40 mph from Olympic Parkway to East
Palomar Street: and
\VHEREAS; on lone ~; 20I3; the City of Chula Vista Safety Commission concurred with
staff s recommendation that the speed limit on Brand}~'ine Avenue between Oh_•trtpic Parkway
and East Palomar Street should be 40 mph; and
\\%I-IEREAS, this recommendation and other information in the Cit}• Ensineer's report has
been fully considered b}• the City Council.

NOR', THEREFORE; il'te City Council of the City of Chula Vista does hereby ordain as
fol lo«~s:
I. EST~.BLISH SPEED LIMIT
That the speed limit on Brandywine Avenue between Olympic Parkway and East
Palomar Sveet be established at 40 mph and Schedule X of the register maintained in the office
of the City Engineer be amended to reflect the revised speed limit as follo«~s:
