HomeMy WebLinkAbout1969-593 RESOLUTION N0. 593 RESOLUTION OF THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION RECOMMENDING TO CITY COUNCIL THE ADOPTION OF A PERMANENT ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 33.601 OF CHAPTER 33 OF THE CHULA VISTA CITY CODE BY AUDING THERETO SIGN RESTRICTIONS IN THE "D" DESIGN CONTROL DISTRICT WHEREAS, the new comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, adopted by the City Council on July 8, 1969,. did not contain standards for signs vaithin the "D" Zone areas, since these signs were contemplated to be regulated by underlying zones, and WHEREAS, the Planning Commission of the City of Chula Vista is presently undertaking a comprehensive study of sign regulations in all zones of the City, and WHEREAS, until said sign regulations shall become effective, the City Council of the City of Chula Vista, on August 12, 1969, approved an emergency ordinance establishing new standards for signs within the "D" Zone, and WHEREAS, the Planning Commission now desires to establish this ordinance as a permanent ordinance, since the emergency ordinance is effective for a 90 day period only, and WHEREAS, the City Planning Commission has duly scheduled the same for hearing and the same came on regularly for hearing on October 6, 1969, Council Chamber, Civic Center, at 7 p.m., and the hearing was closed. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Planning Commission of Chula Vista, California, hereby recommends to the City Council that Section 33.601 (A) 1 - "D" Design Control Modifying District, be amended by adding thereto the following: No signs which are allowed pursuant to the regulations of any underlying zone with which the "D'° District is combined shall exceed one (1) square foot for each lineal foot of building frontage of any one business establishment with a maximum total sign area of one hundred (100) square feet for any said business establishment. A71 signs to be erected in those zones subject to the "D°' modifying district shall be reviewed by the Planning Commission to obtain approval prior to construction. Said review shall evaluate proposed signs in terms of design, materials and scale relative to the building in which the business is being conducted and the purposes or uses being conducted therein. Provided, however, that one temporary construction sign noting such information as may be necessary to identify the proposed use, the name of the subdivision or the name of the developer and/or builder, may be erected at the construction site in any such zone subject to the "D" District modification for a period of eighteen (18) months prior to the commencement of said construction. The Planning Commission may grant an extension not to exceed one year, after which such sign shall be removed. Said sign shall not exceed one hundred and fifty (150) square feet, and the location shall not violate any front setback require- ments. Said sign shall be removed within ten (10) days following the final inspection of the structure, building, buildings under construction.
