RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA
COMMENDING MR. JAMES S. COPLEY, CHAIRMAN OF-THE COP.PORATION
' AND PRESIDEPIT OF COPLEY PRESS, INC.; AND MR. WILLIAM SHEA,
PUBLISHER AND GENERAL P~IAPIAGER OF THE SAN DIEGO UNION &
EVENING TRI6UNE FOR THEIR EFFORTS IN THE
OPEPATION AMIGO PROGRAM`
The City Council of. the City of Chula Vista does hereby
resolve as follows:
.WHEREAS, the most.racent program of OPERATION) AMIGO vaas
conducted from January 12 to February '4, 1965, providing an opportunity
for twenty-nine students and one faculty member from Argentina to
come to the City of Chula Vista, live in American homes, and share
in the high school activities of our City, and
- _. WHEREAS, said OPERATION AMIGO program, originating in
Miami, Florida, has been sponsored by the San Diego Union & Evening.
Tribune in the San Diego area for the past two years, and
6JHEREAS, this program consists of making arrangements with
various high schools in the San Diego area to host some thirty
students from Latin and South American Countries for a period of
two to three weeks, and
6JNIEREAS, the OPERATION AP1IG0 program was initiated to
further understanding and goodwill with our sister countries of
Latin and South America, to broaden and strengthen our mutual ties
and interests and assure the continued friendship of said countries,
and
WHEREAS, all of the expenses for these students are paid
by the San Diego Union & Evening Tribune except for social events
such as high school dances which may be arranged by the hosting school:
NOW, TFIEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the
City of Chula Vista, on behalf of, themselves and the citizens of
the City, do hereby commend N1R. JANiES.S. COPLEY, Chairman of the
Corporation and President of Copley Press, Inc., and MR. NJILLIAM SHEA,
Publisher and General Manager of the San Diego Union &' Evening Tribune,

for-this very.-worthwhile contribution to this "good neighbor"-policy;
and express their special appreciation for the assistance rendered.

Union High•School District.and the Hilltop High School of Chula Vista;
