THE CITY OF CHULA VISTA OPPOSING AB2334 AND AB17iv AMENDING THE BRO?^?N ACT AND LEGISLATION RESTRICTING NE44S MEDIA COVERAGE OF LEGISLATIVE MEETINGS The City Council of the City of Chula Vista hereby resolves as follows: ?4HEREAS, The Assembly Ccmmittee on Governmental Organization will hold a public hearing on December 11, 1964, at 10:00 a.m. in Room 1122 of the State Building, Los Angeles, California to consider proposed legislation relating to open meetings and news coverage of public agencies, and WHEREAS, the City Ccuncil of the City of Chula Vista fully respects the right of the public to complete information regarding the conduct of the people's business and has always adhered to the policy of open and public meetings of the Council and Committees with full disclosure to the public of the deliberations and actions of said bodies, and WHEREAS, the present provision of the Government Code of the State of California regulating open '.meetings of local agencies is considered more than adequate to insure complete disclosure to the press and to the public of governmental operations, and WHEREAS, the proposed legislation. contained in AB2334 would add nothing to the guarantee of these rights but would seriously hamper the conduct of the public business and the work of Committees by requiring that all meetings, whether or not composed of a quorum , of the members of the body, be open and public, and WHEREAS, the amendment to the Government Code contained in AB1716 permitting the broadcast and telecast of proceedings of all meetings and hearings of all state, county, and municipal legis- lative and administrative agencies subject to the provisions of the Open Meeting Act does not in any way further secure said rights but Page 1 •i., . may. would rather result ir, the destruction of the dignity and decorum of legislative meetings and would subvert the basic purposes of all legislatures, D]OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chula Vista that t}:is Council does hereby strenuously oppose and object to the amendments being considered by the Committee on Goverimental Organization as an ur.iust and unnecessary interference with the proper conduct of the public business and detrimental to the public interest.
